Background

TetraScience permits the configuring of alerts, which trigger when conditions surpass or descend above/below a certain pre-determined threshold.

There are two types of alerts:

  1. Online/Offline alerts - notify when a device online or offline.
  2. Feed alerts - notify when device feed data is above or below a specified threshold.

If a device has more than one data feed, you can set a specific alert for one of those feeds.

Alert Recipients

Organization administrators can set alerts that are received by different groups of people.

Alert recipient options include:

  1. Send Alert to only me - will only be received by the individual setting the alert.
  2. Send Alert to selected teams - dependent upon teams configured to the alert.
  3. Send Alert to all users - is received by all users, regardless of membership role, in the organization.

Configure an online/offline alert

Online/offline alerts help you ensure that all of your devices are online as expected, so that your other alerts will trigger when other serious issues arise.

Devices can go offline due to accidental unplugging, power outages, intermittent Internet connectivity, or other causes. Whenever a device goes offline, however, TetraScience continues to collect data locally and uploads it as soon as the device comes back online.

All online/offline alerts, when triggered, will cause a notification to be sent to all users in your organization. Because a device can only have a single status of online or offline at a given point in time, you can only configure one online/offline alert for each device.

The procedure for configuring an online/offline alert is:

  1. Locate the device of interest within the Device Panels or Lab Monitoring screens.
  2. Click on the bell icon for the device. The alert settings modal appears.
  3. Navigate to the Online/Offline pane at the top of the modal.
  4. Select a delay by entering an integer number of minutes into the text box. The delay value select is the amount of time that a device must be offline before the alert is triggered.
  5. Use the checkbox for Send alert when device goes offline to indicate your preference for receiving notifications when your device goes offline.
  6. Use the checkbox for Send alert when device transitions from offline to online to indicate your preference receiving notifications when your device come back online.
  7. Click the Update button to save your changes.

Configure a feed alert

Feed alerts help you to define a safe operating range for your devices and then to receive a notification when a device is operating outside of a safe range. Once you receive a notification, you are able to swiftly intervene and correct the problem. Common laboratory problems include, but are not limited to:

  • Someone accidentally leaves open the door of a freezer, fridge, or incubator.
  • Someone leaves open the door of a particularly important freezer, fridge, or incubator for too long.
  • Someone accidentally unplugs a freezer, fridge, or incubator.
  • The compressor of a freezer or fridge fails.
  • The water supply of an incubator dries up.

TetraScience allows you to set an unlimited number of feed alerts for each feed.

Setting a feed alert

  1. Locate the device of interest within All Devices or Lab Monitoring.
  2. Click on the bell icon for the device. The alert settings modal appears.
  3. Navigate to the pane at the top of the modal for the feed of interest (e.g., Temperature (°C)).
  4. Click the + Add Alert button to create a new alert or click on an existing alert to edit it.
  5. In the Alert Name text box, enter a descriptive name for the alert. For instance, you might have two alerts for a freezer, one when it gets too hot and one if it gets too cold that you could respectively name "High Temp Alert" and "Low Temp Alert". The alert name will appear in any alert notifications that you receive related to that alert.
  6. In the Send alert when text box, enter the threshold above or below which the alert will be triggered.
  7. In the Send alert when drop down menu, select either Above or Below to indicate whether the alert will be triggered when the device feed value is above or below the threshold value you entered.
  8. In the for X minutes text box, enter a delay value. The delay value select is the amount of time that a device must be above or below the desired threshold before the trigger is triggered.
  9. In the Choose Your Recipients section, select one of the three options. Alerts may be sent to only me, selected teams, or all users.
  10. Use the checkboxes for Email, Text Message, and Phone Call to indicate which channels TetraScience should use to deliver your alert notification.
  11. Click the Create Alert button to save your new alert or click the Update Alert button to save the changes to your existing alert.
